June 18, 2008: cont'd
With limited time available, we drove straight to the Mennonite Heritage Village which is a popular tourist attraction in the town of Steinbach. Situated 52 kilometres from the city of Winnipeg, the town of Steinbach has a population of around 11,000 and is one of the fastest growing towns in Manitoba.
The Mennonite Heritage Village, which is set up on a 40 acre (17 hectare) property, depicts the Mennonite way of life from the 16th century right up to the present day.
A full sized windmill, farm, and agricultural implements are just a few of the outdoor exhibits while indoor exhibits include artifacts and quilt making demonstrations.
Unfortunately, we had to zip quickly around the grounds because we were short on time but this is a place worthy of a visit while traveling through this region of Manitoba.
We stayed until closing time - then headed back towards the city of Winnipeg. We stopped off at the Royal Canadian Mint building on the outskirts of Winnipeg and poked our heads in to check out the makings of Canadian money before heading back to the Conestoga Campground for a stupendous sunset and threatening storm clouds.
