We had several appointments which kept us pretty busy for most of the day, however we did manage to take a speedy 40 second trip in the elevator (which travels at 18 km per hour) up the Sky Tower in downtown Auckland.
The Sky Tower is connected to the Sky City Hotel and Casino and is a major tourist attraction in the city. There are stunning views from the Main Observation Deck and Sky Deck of the Harbour, suburbs, and Waitakere Ranges. From here you can see why Auckland is called the City of Sails - the harbour is full of sail boats both in its two main marinas and out sailing the blue waters of the Waitemata.
After being re-aquainted with Auckland City we headed across the Harbour Bridge for a sunset shot from Mt Victoria which offers superb views of the harbour, city and sky tower.
We headed out of town late and although the campground in Orewa was full, we found a place to pull off the road for the night although it was pretty noisy with traffic.
