A short entry today ... we drove a long, long way from the Catlins to close to Akaroa on the Banks Peninsula. What we saw of the rest of the Catlins (which was not all) were beautiful waterfalls and awesome coastline. The Catlins is a mixture of rolling farmland, natural green forest, golden sandy beaches, and rugged headlands. We made a couple of stops before making a beeline for Akaroa. The first being at the three tiered McLean Falls - the prettiest falls in the Catlins then at the Nugget Point Lighthouse with the many interesting but hazardous rocks resting at its foot.
We are now on the Banks Peninsula at a camp site near Little River which is near Akaroa, a quaint village with a distinctly French flavour. Tomorrow we explore the Akaroa Harbour before heading back into Christchurch to return our camper to the rental company.

Unfortunately, the high winds of the last 24 hours did not allow us to take a harbour cruise as planned - so we headed straight back to Christchurch then back down to Oamaru.
We will now spend a few days resting until just after Christmas when we hit the road again. We need this time to re-organise the camper and make some tentative plans for our North Island trip.
