December 11, 2007 - continued:
We arrived in Zurich, found a parking spot, then headed into town on foot. We were just browsing more than anything else but we did stop off at Cafe Felix which is tucked in behind the Teuscher - chocolates of Switzerland store. As soon as we stepped into the shop our eyes were bulging at the sheer quantity and variety of chocolates available at this shop - it was incredible. Resisting the temptation to 'pig out' on chocolates we settled for a single shot at it ... a drink of 'real' hot chocolate. It was perfect for a cold and wet day but boy was it rich .... but good (the bad things always are).
We wandered through a few christmas markets, which are not quite the same in tradition as they are in Germany or Austria, at least not yet. Then headed over to the famed Bahnhoffstrasse - a popular and bustling street which is fringed by a variety of fine shops and boutiques. Then it was on to the main train station of Zurich. As well as being a major hub for the city transport, this train station also houses a vast underground shopping centre which today was jammed full with christmas market stalls. There was also a massive christmas tree featuring literally thousands of hanging crystal decorations made by Swarovski.
Then it was time to head back out into the rain and then on to Siebnen. We had a fondue dinner planned that night - real Swiss cheese fondue ... mmmmmm!!
Tomorrow we'll be driving back to Freising and continuing the countdown to Christmas!
