Januay 27, 2008:
Moving on we passed through a handful of smallish towns such as Almodovar del Rio, and Palma del Rio each with their unique charm. However as we were generally interested in getting to Sevilla tonight we didn't spend too much time lingering in these towns.
We made it into the metropolis of Sevilla early enough to check in to our hotel for the night then take a taxi across the River to the main centre of town. From there we could take a tram which would drop us off near the Plaza de Espana - this is where we'd set up for sunset and dusk photo shoot.
Plaza de Espana was constructed for the Spanish-American Exhibition which Sevilla hosted in 1929. Built in a semi-circle fringed by buildings, the centre features a large fountain and a moat with several decorative bridges spanning its width. Each end of the main building is punctuated by a tower in the same moorish architectural style as the main centre building. In front of the main building are recesses decorated with colourful tiles which depict important historic events for each of the provinces/regions of Spain.
We stayed until the Plaza had all but emptied of tourists after they'd watched a spectacular sunset which threw a beautiful golden hue on the magnificent buildings and fountain. We left after the light of day was completely extinguished and headed back towards town for a much needed meal before returning to our hotel in the Triana district.
