April 26:
After driving directly from Toronto to Ottawa in our nifty rental car this afternoon (it's so nice to have a small vehicle for city driving), we checked into our accommodation in downtown Ottawa then since the sun was shining we headed straight out for an orientation tour of the city. Armed with the camera equipment and writing tools we headed to the Parliament buildings - naturally, then made our way across the Rideau Canal (which was still empty - darn it!!) and into the Byward Market where we eventually planned to have dinner.
The Aulde Dubliner Pourhouse at the heart of the Byward Market was a great place for dinner and we enjoyed sitting on the balcony watching the many faces and interactions of people on the path below. That was until a sudden heavy downpour of rain ushered us inside. We watched as it fell heavier by the minute and we realised our plan for an evening shot from Nepean Point was not going to happen tonight. We decided to make a move back to our hotel and attempted to make a dash for it in between showers (or should I say rain drops) - to cut a long story short we were saturated by the time we made it back to the hotel and that was after hailing a taxi.
The forecast for the next day (April 27) was looking brighter so we rested up to be ready for a whirlwind tour of Ottawa tomorrow.
