December 19, 2007:
Our change of clothes and transportation arrangements went as planned - although my trousers were already frozen stiff when we arrived back at the car to change. This was to be a very cold night and the fog in the air was more like a thin veil of ice hanging from the sky. Wrapped up warm we eventually hopped off the train and joined the multitudes of fans (for both FC Bayern Muenchen and the team from Greece) swarming towards the arena.

We were pretty excited, it was my first football game ever and of course Rolf was ecstatic to be watching his home team! The arena loomed out of the fog and was lit up in bright red - just to remind the opposing team and their fans where they were.

Once past the security on the gates we entered the arena. An international pre-christmas footy match wouldn't be the same without refreshments - so we bought a mug of gluehwein and a pretzel each then headed for our seats.

The Allianz Arena was already packed with fans when we arrived and was humming with pre-game excitement. There's nothing quite like a live game for the atmosphere! There were faces painted in home team colours, wacky hats on their heads, scarves were flying, and a few folk even had denim jackets or blankets completely covered in badges - probably from every game they'd been to to watch Bayern Munich - it was quite a sight.

The game got underway soon after we arrived and was a great match, made even better when our team won! I didn't understand all of the commentary (which of course was in German) but enough to get the idea of what was going on.

At the end of the game, the arena emptied out pretty quick and we were soon among the thousands of fans on a march back to the train station.

We arrived back in Freising after midnight, after a day never to be forgotten.
