We descend the 101 castle stairs into the area known as Mala Strana. Cafes and boutiques line the narrow cobbled lanes which are navigated at high speed by the locals in their cars - a warning for tourists, stay on the sidewalks!
Under the hot afternoon sun and along the streets we climb steeply to the Monastery Strahov, passing by the German Embassy - once the site of occupations which would eventually help bring down the Iron Curtain. The grounds of the monastery offer more stunning views over the city but from a different perspective. As the day slowly comes to an end, we locate the Petrin Observation Tower which is in the form of a miniature Eiffel Tower. After a knee buckling climb of over 60 metres to one of the viewing platforms of the tower we are rewarded with 360 views of the city, Prague Castle, Vltava River and the famous historic Charles Bridge.
