Today was slated for driving back to Freising, but enroute we stopped at the magnificient UNESCO World Heritage Site of Stift Melk, a monastery and boarding school situated between the cities of Vienna and Linz.
The Melk Benedictine Abbey is a barque style of construction which was built between 1702 and 1739.
Amazing painted ceilings and elaborate masonry are featured in many of the buildings, and a library with over 16,000 books, some dating hundreds of years back. An interesting museum is also featured and has many historic artifacts as well as a rule book which outlines the Rule of St Benedict.
Entrance to the Stift Melk, Monastery, Melk, Austria, Europe. UNESCO World Heritage Site.
